Paul Tobin
Urchin Writer and Co-Creator for: BANDETTE and all of THE URCHIN STORIES
Paul Tobin is a New York Times-bestselling author. His writing includes Bandette; Colder; and many other comic books, graphic series and works of fiction. Bandette, drawn by Colleen Coover, was awarded the Eisner Award for Best Digital Series in 2013, 2016, and 2017; and was a finalist for the Oregon Book Award for Graphic Literature in 2016. Paul’s graphic novel I Was the Cat, created with artist Benjamin Dewey, was nominated for an Eisner in 2015.
The Genius Factor: How to Capture an Invisible Cat, first in Paul’s series of five novels for middle-grade readers, debuted in 2016 from Bloomsbury Kids in the USA, the UK, and worldwide. The second book in the series, How To Outsmart A Billion Robot Bees, came out March 2017.

Colleen Coover

Colleen Coover is a comic book artist based in Portland, Oregon. Her comics include the adult title Small Favors and the all-ages Banana Sunday. She has been published by Dark Horse, Top Shelf, Marvel, and many others. She works with her husband, writer Paul Tobin, on the Eisner Award-winning series Bandette.

Steve Lieber’s comics and illustrations have been published by DC, Marvel, Dark Horse, Image Comics, Dupuis, Scholastic, Penguin, and many others, on properties like Batman, Superman, Hellboy, Star Trek, and Road to Perdition. He’s best known for his work on Superior Foes of Spider-man at Marvel and Whiteout at Oni Press. He’s currently drawing The Fix at Image Comics. His various projects have received nine Eisner Award nominations, and he won the Eisner for Best Limited Series for Whiteout volume 2: Melt. Whiteout was made into a feature film at Warner Bros. starring Kate Beckinsale.

Alberto Jimenez Alburquerque lives in Madrid, Spain, and has drawn several titles for Soleil Editions. He is the artist for the series Letter 44 from Oni Press, written by Charles Soule; and the co-creator with writer Paul Tobin on the series Mystery Girl from Dark Horse Comics.

Rich Ellis is a cartoonist, illustrator, and Storyboard Artist. Best known for his work with Marvel Comics on such titles as Operation S.I.N.and Superior Foes of Spider-man and IDW’s creator owned Memorial. He has also worked for DC/Vertigo, Darkhorse, and Monkeybrain, as well as commercial clients such as Harper Collins, Walter/Bloomsbury UK, Amazon, Intel, and Microsoft/MNML. Originally hailing from South Carolina and Vermont, Rich earned a B.F.A. in Sequential Art from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2005 and joined Periscope Studio in 2006. He enjoys Dungeons and Dragons, tacos, guitars, and is a self professed “Ninja enthusiast”.

Erika Moen

Erika Moen is a freelance cartoonist born June 25, 1983 and graduated with an Illustrated Storytelling self-designed degree from Pitzer College in 2006. She lives in Portland, Oregon where she has been a member of Helioscope since 2008. Having created comics for well over a decade, her work has been published by Dark Horse, Image, Villard and Scholastic, among many others. In addition to creating comics, she also regularly teaches classes and guest lectures on the subject in high schools and colleges around the country. She is best known for her completed autobiographical comic DAR! and the ongoing series Oh Joy Sex Toy that she creates with her husband weekly.

Jonathan Hill
Urchin Artist for: FRECKLES and DALTON in: “THE DISTRESS CALL”
Jonathan Hill graduated as valedictorian of the Savannah College of Art & Design in 2003 with a degree in Sequential Art. After graduating, he moved to Portland, Oregon and realized that he needed to relearn everything he learned in school.
Since then he’s been freelancing as an illustrator and cartoonist. Some of his clients include Hollywood Entertainment, the Viet Nam Literature Project, the Willamette Week, Fantagraphics Books, Image Comics, Dark Horse Comics, Tor.com, Roar Comics, Sagacity, and Powell’s City of Books.
His first graphic novel, Americus, was published by First Second Books in Fall 2011. It was picked as an ABC New Voices 2011 title, nominated by the YALSA as a 2012 Best Graphic Novel for Teens, and was a Fall 2011 Junior Library Guild Premier Selection.
In 2012 it won the NAIBA’s Carla Cohen Free Speech award, becoming the first graphic novel to win the award. The first chapter of Americus was published in the Papercutter comics anthology and was nominated for an Ignatz Award. His short story ‘Jeremiah’ was selected as part of the 2016 Society of Illustrators Comic and Cartoon Annual exhibit and publication.
Jonathan also teaches comics and visual narrative for various organizations around Portland. He is an associate professor in the Illustration Department at the Pacific Northwest College of Art, has been Writer in Residence through Literary Arts’ Writers in the Schools program since 2012, and teaches comics and illustration classes for teens at the Oregon College of Art and Craft.
He is currently making comics for Oni Press and First Second.

Ron Randall has been a professional storyteller and illustrator for over thirty years. His commercial work includes storyboard and concept design art for clients as diverse as Nike, PolarTec, Sea World, and Kindle. His comic book work can be seen in publications from every major comics publishers in the United States, including Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Image, Dark Horse, and IDW on properties as varied as Spider-man, Supergirl, Predator, and Star Wars. The science fiction adventure series Trekker is his own creation and labor of love, which he is currently returning to with new stories presented both through Dark Horse Comics and online at trekkercomic.com.

Lucy Bellwood
Urchin Artist for: COMMANDER PIPPINS in: “THE MEDAL”
Lucy Bellwood is a tall ship-sailing, dual citizen cartoonist best known for her adventurous autobiographical comics. Her work has appeared in magazines, maritime museums, and anthologies around the country. When not recounting her life at sea in her nautically-themed series Baggywrinkles, she publishes travelogue comics from the bottom of the Grand Canyon to the last wooden whaling ship in the world. She is also a regular artist on the all-ages fantasy series Cartozia Tales. Lucy lives in Portland, Oregon and spearheads the mentorship program at Helioscope.

Ron Chan was born and raised in Portland, OR and works as a freelance Cartoonist, Storyboard Artist, and Illustrator. He graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2005, and his comics work has been published by Dark Horse, Marvel, and Image Comics. He is best known for drawing Plants vs Zombies comics for Dark Horse. Storyboarding work of his includes boards for advertising, user experience design, 3D animation, and gaming, for clients such as Microsoft, Dell, Amazon Kindle, Nike, Konami, and Sega.
In his free time, Ron likes to play video games, watch anime, and occasionally get his butt whupped at jiu-jitsu class.

Cat Farris
Urchin Artist for: LT. HELOISE PRICE in “A THIEF FOR HIRE”
Cat Farris is a Portland, OR native, and the creator of the mini comic series Flaccid Badger and the webcomic The Last Diplomat. An illustrator with an animation influence, Farris is best known for her chibi versions of popular superheros and video game characters. Her past work includes art for Emily and The Strangers: Breaking The Record, Harrow County: Tales of Harrow County, occasional inks for the Rick and Morty comic series, and variant covers for several books. Her new graphic novel My Boyfriend Is A Bear, written by Pamela Ribon, is coming in 2018 from Oni Press.

Sarah Burrini
Urchin Artist for FRECKLES in: “NO, BANDETTE!”
Sarah Burrini is a freelance illustrator and cartoonist living in Cologne, Germany. She published “Silly & Cone” in German MAD magazine, several short comics for anthologies and worked as an animator on German children’s shows like “Die Sendung mit der Maus” (The Show with the Mouse). She draws and writes the monthly comic for the children’s magazine “Benni”.
Since 2009 she publishes her own semi-autobiographical webcomic “Life Ain’t No Pony Farm” which won the “Peng award” of the Munich comics festival”, the “Sondermann award” of the Frankfurt Book Fair and was nominated for “Best German comic strip” of the Max and Moritz Award at the comics festival Erlangen.
In 2014 she won the ICOM (Independent Comics) Award for “special achievement or publication”.
